Subject: deleted items

I recently disputed items on my credit report and they were deleted from my report. My question is once items have been deleted, can these items ever be reported on my credit report again?

Hi Miss understood,

Generally speaking, deleted items are not supposed to come back on your report. However, if you have settled the debt, or paid only a part of the debt, it tends to come back.

Thanks,

Aaron

Aaron, If the debt was settled and they put it back on (saying you have a pay for delete) can you not dispute it? Also it has been said many times that pay for deletes are not legal. If this is so then why would the credit agencies remove a debt if a person has this proof? I would think it was legal if the Credit reporting agencies accepts the letter and removes the debt.

My problem with all this is that if it is a collector that is not the original creditor then they can not remove the original creditors report. Many times the same bill will be reported several times by the original creditor then followed by the collectors who purchased or who the original creditor has transferred to to collect it.

they can only remove what they report.

Miss Understood, the law says that if a deleted item is reinserted the CRA must notify you.

FCRA 611(a)(5)(B)

Aaron! if a sleazy CA defrauds on a settlement, you sue them. this is why you must get every thing in writing. if they agree to delete it is fraud to back out.

goodnatured, the CA can only control and delete their own tradeline. So it is true that deleting the CA will not delete the OC. BUT, collection accounts are much more negative than lates and charge offs, so it does help to delete them. plus after the collection account is gone it is easier to dispute the OC. Lots of times they don't want to bother fighting with you about an account that they can't collect any more money on.

If an item was disputed and deleted off, it could be for a number of reasons like if the creditor or collection agency just failed to update the credit reporting agency within the 30 days. The credit reporting agency will remove the item if that is what you requested.

Now the creditor or collection agency can see the item missing and later update to put it back on the credit report. BUT the credit reporting agency has 5 business days to notify you of the reinsertion, if they fail to do this and you see the item back on your credit report, then you have a right to write back in and point out the credit reporting agency to give you proper 5 day notice of reinsertion. They have to removed it for good in that case because of the technicality.

You can read more about reinsertion looking at the FTC site at www.ftc.gov - look up the Fair Credit Reporting Act.
