There is no short cut method to improve your credit score. If you want to improve your credit score, you need to have patience. However, if there is any hard inquiry listings in your credit report, which you think has not been authorized by you, it can be removed. Removing a hard inquiry from your credit report may increase your credit score by 3 to 5 points. Moreover, you can remove any outstanding debt from your report by pay for deletion agreement if the creditor agree to it.
Hi Jazimmer
You can either remove any unauthorized inquiry from your credit report or remove outstanding debts through pay for deletion agreement. However, for PFD, you need to pay off the debt in full. Another way to improve your score is to start making regular purchases with your existing credit cards and repay it within the due date. This will help you improve your credit history and will increase your score.
you must always pay on time. It won't matter how much you pay as long as you meet the minimum balance due. This is important in building a credit history.
When you say you can pay for deletion is it possible that my credit card company will make my months on my history that are 30 60 and 90 days past due green ( paid on time) if i pay a little extra? i had lost my job and couldnt make a payment for several months, was wondering if it was legal for them to convert them to paid on time months for a little extra cash. if so i will have perfect credit history.
You are correct fatherbride, making on-time min payments will help you build a good credit history but jizimmer1 is asking how to increase his credit score quickly. So the size of the payment made to your lines of credit very much matters in this case. I would suggest just making and extra payment to any open lines of credit (credit cards) before you are getting ready to apply for a loan. Every major credit card company updates your balance to the credit bureaus atleast on a monthly basis and lower balances on your lines of credit will give you a lower debt to income ratio (D/I). This inturn will increase your credit score I'm sure atleast a couple points if not more.
Normally a 30 or a 60 day late payment can be removed from your credit report if you can negotiate with your creditor and make the payment current and paying the late fees and other charges. But when an account becomes 90 to 120 days late, the creditor considers it as a bad debt and charges it off. Now, if a debt is charged off, it becomes very difficult to remove the late mark from your credit report.
