I was watching CNN this morning when Gerri recommended this site. It sounds like it is on the up and up.
Sometimes credit counseling can be helpful if you get the right one.
Just remember anytime you deal with one of these companies that you one: Double check the deal negotiated with the credit counseling company against the credit card company. Two Make sure the due day for the credit counseling matches the due date with the credit card company (if not ask the credit card company to push back the due date to match the credit counseling date).
Remember that the credit counseling notation will be added to the credit report for the period of time you are in the program, but it will be removed following completion. CCCS is viewed as negative as having filed chapter 13 bankruptcy but it does not stay on for a long period of time like bankruptcy.
When you enter CCCS you must close the involved accounts and you must not open any new accounts until the program is complete.
And always check any company you deal with against the data base for the Better Business Bureau
