Unique National Collection is listed in my CR. What to do?

I have a debt on my credit report from Unique National Collection, it is for a library fine. From my understanding, Unique Nat'l Collection does not accept payment, and I must deal with the library directly.

My question is, once I have the debt paid in full with the library, can I have Unique remove the item from my report entirely or does it simply goes into a "Paid/Closed" status? Should I talk to Unique first? Do I need the library to sign an agreement that says they are releasing me from this obligation?

I think that someting needs to be done sooner. If we pay something off in full it should be taken off our scores imediately not 7 years later. What about us with families who are trying to buy homes but cant because of our credit score? What are we supposed to do just suffer for 7 more years along with our economy?! How on earth is our economy supposed to get better if no one is allowed to purchase things because it wont be removed from their CR for 7 years after its been paid in full. I wish I knew how to get ahold of the president because this is clearly an issue!

i got a phone in 2001 from sprint, broke the contract, it was 841.00 n now its up to 1336.00. the problem i have is that this acct. is almost 12yrs. old, i think the collection agency keeps pushing the date back, as if it was recently i broke this contract, can i dispute this n how?

how can I contact you to arrange paying off my Missouri library debt. The debt is $184.00. I am having some repairs done on my car, and might need to wait until I receive my next social security payment which arrive on april 17 I believe.
