Reliable debt management service

Hi,

Someone please tell me what are some of the best and legit debt management services that can help me get rid of debt.

I shared a joint account (Car Loan 02/1/2010) with someone, but that person filed for bankruptcy. This affected my credit just by being on the account. I never knew that this would happen.

I was not aware of this. However, when I went in to apply for a car loan the banker showed me that I had a $5,000.00+ debt, though I have never even financed anything in my life. He said that there was no way he could give me a car loan until all of that was paid off.

I figure my best shot at getting my car is to enroll in a DMP.

Please help.

Hi Clint,

You are facing problem with a single debt, and so I don't think you need to take help of a debt management company. You can rather try to save up some money and request the lender to agree to a repayment plan. Send the lender a loan modification letter through certified mail.

Thanks,

Aaron

Hello Clint,

In response to your first concern, the best way to find a legitimate debt management organization is to research them through the Better Business Bureau.

In response to your second concern regarding the car loan you co-signed; I would initially agree with Aaron. The first attempt to clear up matters is directly with the creditor. Explain the situation and see if they are willing to work with you. If that is not successful, then call one of the non-profit debt organizations for assistance. Creditors are more willing to work with a non-profit then some of the for profit companies who act as debt settlement companies. They know the non-profits are going to assist in paying down the balance in full.

Hope this information is helpful.
