I just received notice that a judgment may be filed against me. I received $6000 as a moving package that went directly as rent/security deposit in a new home from my new employer to get me to move to the area and start a job for him. A month later I was fired without cause. I just recieved notice that if I do not pay the $6000 he will put a judgment against me. There was nothing in writing or verbal between us letting me know I would have to pay it back. What should I do

Hi Derhak,

I believe you still have a copy of the moving package agreement. If there was no mention of paying it back, then seeking a legal action will not be easy for your creditor. However, I would suggest you to call and talk to your creditor and see if you could negotiate the amount. Otherwise, wait till he gets the judgment against you. In court you will get a chance to place your point properly. There you can let the court know what had actually happened.

derhak, This is going to depend mostly on what is written in the moving package agreement. Some will have a time frame written in them. For example, if not employed for 90 days you will be responsible for payback. Most employers do this to protect themselves from paying money for moving costs and employees quitting soon after. Another thing that may come into play is the reason you were fired or quit. Look ver the contract and let us know what it says.

3 years ago my sister loaned me money while I was going thru chemo. I have tried to pay her back over the past few years, but have had several set backs.there was no contract. While I did pay her some, it was cash. Now she wants to take me to court and p!ace a judgement on me. I asked her to be patient and I'll pay her as I can. If there's no contract can she still do this?
