credit card debt

I am on SSI and can no longer pay my credit card debt. I know that SSI can not be garnished. I do not own a home but I do own a nice car which is paid off and in my name, it was a gift. can I be forced to sell my car to pay my credit cards?

If the credit card company sues you and wins the case, they can put a lien on your car. As for the SSI, even if they cannot garnish it as per the laws, when the money goes into a savings or checking account, no barrier or classification remains. And so, the creditor can go on to garnish the bank account, after winning the lawsuit against you. Is it one credit card or do you have quite a few?

Welcome to the forums!!!
Yeah...it's true that they can't garnish your SSI. But if they win the judgment against you, then they can force you to sell your car to satisfy their judgment. So it's better for you to negotiate with the credit card company and try to set up a payment arrangement with them.

Garnishing your SSI definitely isn’t possible. How about doing something with your cards, like say negotiation?

Sally....they will NOT force anyone to sell their transportation. Please do not make up information.
