About student loan

Hello,

I have a question about my student loan of about three years ago. I switched from a full time student to half time, as I had to begin to work full time. I had filed for a deferment for the student loan, so I didn't have to pay while in school. Some how, the deferment stopped or I didn't renew it. I fully understand this is my fault. The student loan showed as unpaid for about a year. Last year when I started to fix my credit, I called the collection company that was shown for my student loan and worked out a payment plan. I was to pay them for a certain number of months, then the loan would come out of collections.

My problem is that when I look at my credit report now, it still shows as unpaid for the last year, even though I have been paying every month. What can I do? What will happen when I fulfill my obligation to the collection company and the loan comes out of collections?

Please help!

Hi Kevin,

Can you tell whether or not you have the payment receipts? If you have, you ca use these to dispute this with the credit bureaus. You should always check your credit report regularly, atleast 3-4 times a year.

Write a dispute letter to the credit bureaus mentioning that you have been making the payments all through out, though this has not got reported. Attach copies of the payment receipts with the letter as proof.

If this does not work out, you can file a complaint with the Federal Trading Commission and your State Attorney General.

Thanks,

Aaron
