debt consolidation concerns

I am currently considering going to a debt consolidation for 28000.00 of unsecured debt thru a debt consolidation program. I know your accounts have to go past due before you can start this program but my concern is I have never been 30 days past on anything but came very close and Im not to keen on letting my payment build up in a account till they have enough to pay off each credit card in return letting the larger accounts go 30-60-90-120 and so on days past due. Is this the only way that you can get in a debt consolidation program or are there different programs that help with this problem?

It is not that you have defaulted on payments and then only debt consolidation program would be possible. You can join a consolidation program before any defaults occur also.

I worked with a Debt Settlement company. I had never been past due but I was very overextended and I was getting near falling off the cliff.. I had a very good experience... Make sure the settlement company you choose is a Member of the UNITED STATES ORGANIZATIONS FOR BANKRUPTCY ALTERNATIVES..and see that they have a satifactory record with the Better Business Bureau... www.BBB.org

I posted my experience on the Debt Settlement board here. If you are interested.
