how do you "fix" a car loan charge off w/out getting your car repossessed, the sole source of transportation to the job you finally got after being laid off for months. Can I still register it?

Wait... The lender actually charged off the car loan
balance, WITHOUT repossessing your car?

Did you get your Registration Renewal
in the mail yet?

No they did not repossess it as I moved and they don't have a current address at this point. and also no, i have not yet rec'd my registration renewal for likely the same reason, that is why I was going to contact DMV myself, but am unsure as to whether they will register it either.

Wow! I have never heard of such. Perhaps someone
with helpful information may chime in.

Once I had failed to receive my registration renewal
in the mail. I went to the "Tax Collector" office
(in Florida) and the Clerks there had it in their
Returned Mail pile. The reason was they had 1 digit
in my Zip Code incorrect. I paid the fee and received
my registration on the spot.

1) I wonder if there is a way to check your registration
status online? We do it all the time for Drivers' Licenses.

2) I think non-payment may hold up your Title, but
I do not know about registration.

3) Now that I think about it, the Lender and/or DMV
should allow you to register it, because this would be
a very convenient way for the Lender to obtain your
new address, if they really wanted to repossess it.

You can pay your registration on line in Florida and non payment of the note would not be an issue with the registration. The issue gets prickly when they mail your sticker. When they skip trace they will likely try to see where the registration went

as long as you don't give you forwarding address you are find. You have the right to obtain a registration legally on your vehicle. Use a p.o. box for your address on your driver license or for forwarding info. to yourself.

Problem is sooner or later they will find out where you are and you will lose the car unless you act now. You could call the financial lender and ask how you can catch up the late payments. Most places will be willing to work with you because it costs them money to take you to court and/or auction off the vehicle.
Now if they do auction off the vehicle and they sell it for less than you owe (which almost always happens) you will then be responsible for whatever the difference is. Say the vehicle sells for $5000 and you owed $10,000. Well you are then on the hook (legally) for the other $5000. It will go against your credit record and you can be sued for the remaining balance.

I am behind one payment and only owe 3000.00 on the vehicle....i have actively made partial payments monthly to catch up. Is the fianance company taking this into account as a sign of good faith? Can I call to payoff the vehicle for a lessor amount than what is owed?

Bee, I do not think registering it in your parents name is going to help out in the long run. Sooner or later the VIN number will get the car traced to where it is.
BEBE, you need to call them. You are showing them that you are trying to pay. Maybe they could redo the loan into longer years (refinance) and get the payment lower. You could ask them about settling it for less but I would not hold my hopes on that especially if it is a newer car that they could repo and sell for it value. Now this is what you do not want to happen..Take it from me...
We let a car go because the dealer refused to fix the transmission. This was years and years ago when they could get away with this stuff. We either had to fix the transmission or make the payment. Why do either because one way it was undrivable and the other we would have lost it. SO we let it go. They sold it for almost nothing and then we still had to pay what was left!

Yes that is true I had a friend that did the same thing. I think she owed about 4,000 on the car and they sold it for 500 and she was stuck with the rest and they refused to lower her payments as well. So she had the same payment and no car. I'm just wondering would that kind of thing fall under the lemon law? If not it should

I think it is not possible to get absconded with car and the fee too> there is always a check and balance exist. You have pay the charges until getting repossession.
