I have three accounts on my credit report that has all been paid off and closed since February 2007.
Sam's Club was late 120 days.
Walmart was late 90 days.
JC Penney was late 120 days.
On all three bureaus, the Condition of the accounts state, "Closed. Paid."
On TransUnion and Equifax, the Pay Statuses state, "Current." But on my Experian report, it states "Late XX Days."
Why is this so? Why does it not state "Current" like the other two bureaus? Experian has just changed these statuses about a month ago, and since then, my score for Experian has dropped by about 50 points.
What can I do in this situation? Thanks in advance!
Credit bureaus have their won way of reporting. One may simply refer to your account as closed while the other may like to present if you have been late or have an account charged off. This is to say that some bureaus like to represent the status of your debt just as it is. Since Experian chose to represent your status as late (which you have mentioned that you were), it has affected your credit score.
Tina, all you can do now is to be regular on your current debts and no default on any or make late payments on any. This will help improve your credit report.
I wish that they would take a look at the way these guys report and set some guidelines for them to follow. Credit affects so many parts of your life these days, including your ability to get employment. I agree. I do not think that it stays on your report for a long time once you pay up the account. I do think that a lot of laws need to be rewritten. I do not think that because you were late on a few bills or you had to file bankruptcy it should effectg your employment and everything else.
