I have a charge off in my credit report. It has been more than 9 years. Is it a good idea to pay off the debt or is there a way to remove the charge off out of my credit report?

Welcome to the forums!!!
Usually negative item remain on your credit report for 7 years from the date of your first default. In this case the same didn’t happen and it is showing on your credit report. So you should immediately dispute this matter with the credit bureaus and request them to remove this item from your credit report.

Be careful going to any of the webtesis to get a free credit report because they end up signing you up for a service and then you get charged a monthly fee. By law you are required to get a free credit report each year from the each of the 3 major credit bureaus. Just call each of them and they will send it to you.
