CCS is credit collection services. In order to collect any debt, they need to send you a debt validation notice within 5 days of initial communication if the first communication is over phone, else you need not worry. Moreover, the debt is not yours. So, if they disturb you again, just file a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission.
There are more discussions in this forum on CCS. You can go through them by visiting the link CCS. _________________ Keep in touch

Hi laxride,
To be on safer side you can also check your credit report to see if the credit collection services has reported the debt to the credit bureaus. If they have reported it your credit score will go down. Send CCS a dispute letter demanding verification of your debt. If they are unable to verify it they should remove it from your credit report and cease all contacts with you. _________________ Looking forward to a debt-free life. |

I have been going through this for about two years now. It is not as easy as it seems. After you contact CCS the collector will turn around and sell the debt to another junk collector. The phone calls begin again all over until you repeat the process. This happens to me all the time. Even for doctors appointments. I finally got fed up with fighting them and called my phone company and told them the number they gave me when I moved here was someone who apparently oewd a ton opf debt and I was being harassed by their creditors. They changed my numbner for free and it was finally over with.
It was a hassle changing my number with everyone but so was calling CCS a million times and dealing with someone elses creditors. |

Hi laxride,
Send a Cease and Desist letter to CCS. You will find a sample of a Cease and Desist letter if you visit the following link: http://www.creditmagic.org/repair/cease-desist-letter.html . I feel this letter will stop CCS from bothering you. _________________ Looking forward to a debt-free life. |

| IF YOU REPEATEDLY RECEIVE PHONE CALLS FROM COLLECTIONS FOR SOMEONE WHO DOESN'T LIVE THERE - 1ST DO NOT YELL- 2ND STATE IT IS INCORRECT AND YOU DO NOT KNOW THE PERSON - 3RD VERIFY THE PHONE # BEING DIALED - I DON'T WANT TO CALL YOU AND WASTE MY TIME AND MONEY EITHER- ALSO IF IT HAPPENS A LOT -GET A NEW PHONE # WHEN SOMEONE HAS 1 ACCOUNT IN COLLECTIONS THEY MOST LIKELY WILL HAVE MORE PLACED IN THE FUTURE SO IT IS IMPOSSIBLE FOR A COMPANY TO KNOW ITS WRONG UNTIL THE FILE IS LISTED - AGAIN DO NOT BE RUDE WE DON'T WANT TO CALL WRONG NUMBERS EITHER - IT'S A DIRTY JOB BUT SOMEONES GOTTA DO IT |

DO NOT TAKE THE ADVICE OF SENDING A CEASE AND DESIST LETTER- THAT MAKES ABSOLUTELY NO SENSE - IF THEY ARE NOT COLLECTING A DEBT FROM YOU, THEN HOW ARE THEY SUPPOSED TO CEASE AND DESIST FOR YOU WHEN ITS NOT EVEN YOU THAT THEY ARE TRYING TO COLLECT THE DEBT FROM. SORRY BUT THAT ANSWER IS COMPLETELY IGNORANT.
FYI - ITS NOT ILLEGAL TO DIAL THE WRONG PHONE NUMBER ! |

While this is true, it is also a fact that dialing the same number over and over again for the wrong reason is harassment and needs to be stopped. Imagine being bombarded with phone calls asking for a debt you don't owe. I would be really irritated if it were to happen to me.
Well, the FDCPA states that you can ask the state attorney general's office if they can provide assistance in writing to the debt collectors to stop harassing you. You can file a complaint with the attorney general's office and the FTC. Remember not to provide your SSN if the debt collector asks for it. _________________ Keep in touch

I disagree about getting a new number. I have went through this crap when I moved. Three are so many people in collections these days. Most new numbers that are available when you try to get a new one is ones from people who have changed their number due to collection calls. So why pay the money to change your number when chances are you will just get another one of those numbers?
What I did was called them back (or answered) and let them think I knew the person and if they would give me a name and contact number I would gladly relay it on. After that I told them the real truth and told them if they called again I would be reporting them.
See if you tell them before hand they just hang up. |

| I work for CCS, and all's you have to do when receiving "wrong number" (known as wrong party) calls is call the Collection agency, kindly say you are being called for someone whom no longer owns the phone #, verify the number and the person we are asking for, and we will REMOVE YOUR NUMBER from our data base. You may receive ONE MORE CALL within a 72 hour window, if the compay is using a computer dialer atleast. Good luck! |

| do this by certified mail and sue them if they fail to respond. Frankly thinking that CCS will stop calling cause you ask is BS. I have had this problem and they could care less. |

I've had experience with these calls myself, but it is not the agent who speaks to you that is at fault. It is an automated dialer system that they are on, which they receive through a computer...inbound and outbound calling. So, if you NEED the number removed, they will do so. I've talked with some very kind people there, and did not get in there face. It's their job, and the least you or anyone can do is not make anymore a hassle for them than it is for you. They're not the ones dialing...you just need to verify the number and confirm you're not so and so. Heck, I've people from other countries calling me. |
