Credit bureaus maintain and sell the credit reports of consumers. On the basis of the information provided in the credit profile, the lenders determine the creditworthiness of an individual. The contact information of the three major credit bureaus are as follows:

Hi Jack
Although it is true that one report is free every 12 months as per the Federal law, you need to purchase the credit score which is not available free of cost. However, there are certain credit repair agencies which offer free credit score service only if you sign up for debt consolidation or credit repair services. Again if you sign up with the credit bureaus for fraud alert, you will receive a free credit report in addition to the free report which you get every year.

You would THINK if the CB's will provide a FREE CR each year, they would provide a FREE score, as well. Can't they afford to give out FREE scores? ( sarcasm, of course..)

No, as per the Federal laws, each of the three credit bureaus are required to provide only one free credit report each year but not credit score. Moreover, you get one free credit report if you sign up for fraud protection service. Moreover, there are several credit card companies that offer unlimited access to your credit report if you use their credit cards. But I have not come across companies that offer unlimited free access to your credit score.

Is it the three credit bureaus that offer the fraud protection and does it cost much? I have been thinking of getting fraud protection and would like to know its cost. Also where can you get a look at your score with out having to sign up for anything. I was going to do this at one of the credit bureuas but got worried that they would pull money every month like I seen others post about here.

Fraud alert services are offered by each of the three credit bureaus and it is available free of any charge. If you think that your identity is stolen, you can activate the initial fraud alert with your credit report. This fraud alert is active for a period of 90 days from the date of activation. You need not contact each of the three credit bureaus separately for fraud alert service. Once you activate fraud alert service with a bureau, the other two bureaus are informed automatically.

My daughter and I have the same name and many times there are credit inquiries or entries on my credit report that should be on hers. How can I place some kind of name alert on my credit report?

Hi Elaine,

First, you need to pull a copy of your credit report. Then check which are the wrong listings. Then, you can dispute with the credit bureaus the wrong listings, using your social security number, date of birth and address, if it is different. To eliminate further wrong listings, you can use name prefixes or nicknames. However, remember to use the same changed name for all the accounts and cards, else this may add to confusion.

Hope this helps.

Regards,

Aaron.

hey its the very common mistake are made often it happen many time when there are same name in the famiy and the credit report get mixed ..so you have to complain the CRA(credit report agency)tell abt all this things and tell them to split the files..its obvious when you pull the report from three credit bureaus...there is a possiblity of many incorrect information like name address account.you should directly write it to bureaus company and they will fix it i think you have to show some identification.

regards
