Do we owe this?

Went thru foreclosure 3 yrs ago in VA. Never received final deed transfer papers from Wells Fargo. Received papers from Dyke O'Neal this past Jan. saying we owe 8k in deficiency. They had been calling w/o saying who they were for 2mos. prior. When we called Wells Fargo, they said our account was closed and our credit report shows 0$ owed to them. The county court docs look like a shortage is owed, but we never received a bill from anyone until now. What should we do? We have not admitted a debt or offered to pay D. O'Neal. We cannot really afford legal help at this time.

Was there a balance owed to Wells Fargo that they could have sold off maybe? That is what it sounds like to me. I would try to send them a debt validation to find out what it is all about. They may set you up on a descent payment plan that you can afford if it comes down to that you owe the debt.

Goodnatured thanks for your answer. Forgive me for being so dumb, but what is a debt validation?

Hi clmessen,

Welcome to this forum :)

I agree with goodnatured. You can send the company a debt validation letter. You will be able to find a sample debt validation letter at http://www.creditmagic.org/repair/sampleletter-debtvalidation.html .

A debt validation is sent when you aren't aware of a debt or to whom you owe. With the debt validation, you will be able to know what kind of debt it is, what is the debt amount, to whom you originally owed the debt, and who now owns your debt.

Hope this helps.

Regards,

Aaron
