Disputing items on my report

Hi,

I am about to send my dispute letters but I want to know what to do first.

I have 3 credit card accounts that have gone to collections. Should I dispute these with CA or the OC first? I was only going to dispute 5 total items, just to start. Is the first step to get rid of CA's first, then go for OC later? The other three are charge-offs.

Also, has anyone had or know of people having success by disputing items as "inaccurate information" or "very inaccurate information"?

I just want to get everything in order for my first disputes!

Hi Zita,

As the accounts are with the collection agencies you will have to dispute with the colelction agencies only. Only if these accounts are not valid ones, you can dispute with the OC too.

However, in the dispute process first send debt validation letters to the collection agencies through certified mail. If they fail to validate the debt or may be the amount, you can then go forward with the dispute.

Also, has anyone had or know of people having success by disputing items as "inaccurate information" or "very inaccurate information"?

No, disputes does not work in that way. You will have to show proof that the account or information the creditor or collection agency is reporting is not a valid one.

To remove the charge-offs you will have to make payment arrangements with the original creditor and request him to agree to a "Pay for delete" agreement (PFD). With PFD the negatives are removed. However, this can be done only if the creditor agrees to pull back the account from the collection (this can be done only if the account has not been sold off to the collection agency).

Thanks,

Aaron

Hi Zita,

You can't dispute an item off your credit report by simply mentioning it to be an inappropriate one. You can send in dispute letters to the credit bureaus and will have to show proofs on the inaccuracy of the debts.

Thanks
