I recently had to approach my bank after my car head gasket blew and attempt to obtain my title they were holding as collateral on a second mortgage loan. The loan officer told me she couldn't just release it that easily that she would have to find out if she could. I explained to her that the house could definitely stand alone on the 2nd mortgage loan and the first because it was worth well over the amount owed on both but she explained because I filed bankruptcy over a year ago I was considered a risk and she would have to check on it before just letting me have it. In the meantime I called my old loan officer who moved to another bank to check on the possibility of me getting an auto loan from him since he had always worked so well with us in the past. He told me that he had talked to "Mary" (not her real name) about our credit and we had several over 30 days reporting on 1 of our loans and if that were the case he just didn't see how he was going to be able to help. Needless to say I was furious at the thought that she had discussed my credit with him at all when I had not even asked her to look a the loan. I called another loan officer at my bank and he started trying to assist me in getting the loan and asked me did I not want to talk to "Mary" and I said no that I was very upset with her for discussing my credit with the other banker. He told her I was upset and she got angry and called me at home and told me that she went out of a limb for me getting me that title back and that she didn't discuss my credit with him to which I explained she had to have done it because there was no way he would know what all he told me if she hadn't. She replied he used to be your loan officer but it's like I told her that was over 1 year ago and he's not going to remember all the specifics about our loan now that he's working with a completely different bank and clientele. I am still very upset about her attitude with me, I finally just said thanks for the title you got me and hung up. Do I have any rights here as far as the way I've been treated but a bank that I trust my money with?

Thsi same thing happened to me, too. In my opionion, this is really a 'privacy' thing. If you did NOT give permission to this women, then she had no right to discuss ANYTHING with anyone else. i don't balme you for being upset......I would be, too. Of course you have rights the way you were treated. What I did, when I had a similiar issue, I made a complaint aqainst the person who 'violated my privacy' and I changed banks. Is this an option for you to do?
