how can someone put something on your credit report without me EVER signing or agreeing to pay it in the first place?...

i hired a friend of a friend lawyer...for a federal case......nothing was signed...he said it wouldnt cost alot.. hell i never even met him face to face.....anyway 2 months go by and i get a 2500 dollar bill??? WTF? i offered em 300 he laughed and now its on my credit report..........HOW?? i never signed or agreed to anything ..

it gets better

ive been disputing this with equifax several times now......i ASK equifax to MAKE them prove this is mine....ask them for a SIGNED agreement that i owe this money......equifax SAID they asked them this...and the collection agency just said.."" this is his and provided them with my SS#""" and equifax said that was good enough???? WHAT? are you kidding me??

can someone explain to me how this works?

your mistake is to repeatedly dispute with EQ. they are just verifying that this information was sent to them. they work with a system called e-oscar where paying customers submit account information to a database. EQ is not actually responsible for whether people are lying. The tradeline owner gives reasonable cause to believe that this is your account. You need to move on to the next level.

So is this a tradeline or a judgment?

do you have all your credit reports?
what state are you in?
what is the original creditor and the name of the CA?
what is the date of first delinquency? 30 days after last payment

You need to send a DV letter to the collection agency asking them for proof that you have an agreement to pay.

Also more details about the story. what was he supposed to do for you? what did he do? what exactly was the $2500 for?
