I have a debt from RJM for an old bank account. Im not even sure if the debt is legit because i closed the account with a zero balance and this debt was way out of its SOL.

well last year i got a hair up my ass and sent in a partial payment but after thinking about it im not even sure if this is a real debt or a scam. im one of those people who avoided their credit report for years and now im facing and paying head on.

My question is by making a payment im sure i took the debt out of SOL - can i still request a debt validation because i feel like im being scammed. Also what are my chances with RJM that they will settle with a pay for delete?

If needed im in Cali and debt was about 5 years old before i made a payment and now its 6 going to drop off late next year.

any help is appreciated.

yes payment restarts SOL in Cali. damn.

what are they doing? asking you for more money? SOL for suing you and listing on your Credit report are two different things.

I would send a DV/623 letter to debt owner. Specifically ask how the balance was calculated. if you can show the debt is false then Sol doesn't matter and it should be deleted.

They are not asking for more money. The balance was 538.00 and they are sending letters that say they will settle for half that amount.

i did some research and sent out a PFD offering to pay 30% of the balance with a note included that if they accept the balance will be paid in full and they cannot sell my information to another CA to try to collect the leftover.

I also asked that they remove all negative reporting from my credit profile. I will see what they come back with. If they refuse i will settle withtheir letter of 50% off.

If they dont delete the tradeline after i settle does the tradeline still fall off after the 7 years or was that restarted?
