we never knew about it

my husband had an outstanding verizon bill that they sold to pinnacle credit services. now pinnacle has almost doubled the amount owed on it, and the worst part is, we were never contacted that pinnacle had taken it over. do we have to pay all the extras they have added on even though we had no knowledge of them owning the bill?

Is it coming on your credit report? Dispute it and also send a validation request to Pinnacle. Make sure you do not restart the SOL clock.

Your husband can send a written request for debt validation to the pinnacle credit services via certified mail with a return receipt request. If they charge extra amount from your husband, then your husband can file a complaint against them to the State Attorney General or, FTC as they have violated the FDCPA laws. I just found a deposit of 800.00 into my checking account from FIA CSNA. What do I do about this and what is this all about?
