Who to pay for charge-off?

I just recently had my a Bank of America credit card written off as bad debt. I believe they went to a collection agency as I have received a call from Creditors Interchange. I have read a lot of complaints about that particular collection agency that I did not like or hope to have to deal with myself.

Would it still be possible to pay my debt with the original creditor even though they went to a collections agency?

Hi svoss4

You may first want to check if your original creditor has sold off your account to the collection agency. If not, then you may get in touch with the original creditor, talk to them and they may pull back the accounts from the CA and deal with you directly if you can explain to them the problems you have in dealing with the CA.

However, if the account has been sold off to the CA, then I'm sorry my friend, you will have to (even if it is with discontent) deal with the CA. However, they must ask for the payment in writing and send the details of the debt in writing. If not, then under the FDCPA you have the right to refuse payment and hence save your money from going to the wrong place.
