8 Year old debt passed back to original creditor?

A few months ago (maybe May 2009) I received a collections letter from an agency telling me that they were attempting to collect $162 in fees on behalf of EZ Passm for "violations". I have had a current EZ pass account for over 15 years and never received any notices nor has my account been suspended. After much pain and research I discovered the violations were from a series of tag misreads - not even my fault - back in 2001! I promptly sent a letter to the CA disputing the debt, and furthermore saying that the SOL in NYS is 6 years for this kind of debt and I had no intention of paying. Well, yesterday, I received an error going through EZ pass, logged into my account and I see I have "Violations" totalling $162 - from 2001! Is this legal? I mean, they are the OC, but passed the debt to collections over 8 years ago. Did they restart the SOL by attempting to collect this now from me? Any advice is appreciated!

Hi jcmaedl

Did they restart the SOL by attempting to collect this now from me?

An SOL will be restarted only when you make a certain payment on a debt that has been long standing.

Was this violation not reflected earlier?
