You mean Illinois? I think it is 4 years. Your bill is way past the SOL and if you have not made nay payments in between the SOL has not been re set either. So, I think you are covered. You may or may not pay, that is your wish but the fact remains that you still do owe the debt and let me also tell you that if you think of paying, remember that the SOL will be reset from the day you make a fresh payment.
All the best to you _________________ Keep in touch

Hi aprilrain,
Medical bills are considered to be written contracts with a stipulated time period within which the creditor can take legal actions against you, if you fail to repay the debt. The Illinois Statute of Limitations for medical bills is 10 years. I am afraid the creditor still has time to sue you aprilrain. Hence, the best way to stop this legal hassle is to pay the debt ASAP.
All the Best

Sarah the SOL on credit card debts in IL is 10 years but for medical bills it is 4 years or maybe a maximum of 5 years not more. _________________ Keep in touch

Hi aprilrain,
These medical bills should be close to being taken off your credit report anyway. That is probably why they are taking you to court now. But just like Carol said if your SOL is 4 years than you should be fine. Just send the collection agency a letter letting them know The SOL for the debt has past and they can no longer collect from you. This should clear everything up and you shouldn't even have to go to court. |
