I sent them validation letter cert. mail never heard from them for a few months, they then sent warrent in debt to old address ,my thinking was to get default judgment but my exhusband still lived there so he gave it to me,well I went to court and disputed the balance ,well me and the lawyer worked out if I paid half the debt the account would be settled in full ,I even have letter from lawyer stating this, midland then reported remaining balance of debt disputed with credit bureau and they verified debt ,I even a copy of letter from lawyer and copy of money order showing it was paid, can anyone tell me what I should do to get this resolved. :(

I just went through this with a second mortgage I settled with. Them settling the account for a lesser amount doesn't mean that you paid the entire amount due. So usually they do put the amount you still owed and just list it as settled. From what I was told if this isn't correct I need to dispute mine also. Someone else with more knowledge on this will be able to help more. Just hang in there.

Hello Jenny, sounds like you are dealing with another sneaky debt collector. They will often send things to your old address knowing that you will not recieve it. Do you still have the lawyer that was helping you with this case? If so I would call him and maybe a simple phone call from your atty to midland will get this straightened out. If they agreed to settle the debt for less they should have marked your account accordingly. Get in touch with your atty and dispute the listing with the bureaus.

You can contact the federal trades commission and see what advice they give you. They told me to dispute it with them in writing. Instead of doing that which I had already done and I know you have to. I called them and told them I had contacted the FTC and they told me to dispute it with them one last time and if they didn't correct it to call them back. The man put me on hold contacted Equifax and told them to correct it. I got a letter from Equifax in 2 days saying it had been corrected. You can also try this.

Are you saying that they are trying to collect the remaining balance or are the reporting it as settled? I can't tell. I would contact the AG about this.
