hospital bill?

i have a hospital bill on my credit that is keeping my from buying a house, but it occured when i was 14 years old. am i still held liable for it?

Hi Katiengeorgia,

If you are liable or not depend on the no. of years that has passed. Check the statute of limitations in your state. In most states it's only 3 - 4 years and it looks like it would have expired. This is the time period they have to sue you.

Other than this you can contact the Credit Bureaus by phone and ask them what procedure you need to have it taken off your credit report. Be ready with certified copies of your birth certificate to mail all 3 of them to prove the debt was incurred while you were a minor.

How old are you now? What state did you live in? Is there some reason this was not billed to a parent or guardian?

If you are 21 or younger it may be your age that is making it difficult to get a mortgage. if you are older than 21, well this shouldn't be on any report.
