Help with CC ChargeOff

Hi All,

I have one (old) baddie on my CR that I'd like toget rid of if possible; it's a Providian CC charge off from 2003 (low point in financial life). I don't think it's hurting my scores too much (716,736, and 776), but getting rid of it would be great.

I searched and I haven't found a similar situation, I've found COs with orig creditor but with a balance, CO of $0 but with a CA, so close but not quite.

The situation is this:

Chargoff date 10/03

Balance $0

Never sent to a CA

Only reporting to EQ and EX

Providian never wanted to rehabilitate, other than lump sum (I wrote to AG, OCC, FTC, and even Providian CFO for help)

I'm in NJ and the SOL is 3 years for open accounts, which I believe a CC falls into the open account category.

So the long and the short of it is, is this a candidate for Obsolete, or do I run the risk of awakening a sleeping giant trying to get this bumped off?

I'm open to any other suggestions,

Thanks

Credit reporting lifetime is not the same as the SOL; this can stay for seven years beginning with the date of charge off (October, 2010).
You can try to dispute this for any reason you want (obsolete, incomplete...), but if it is accurate information, there is never a guarantee of removal. The only risk I see of a "sleeping giant" is if there was still a balance due. This will play out simply as successful or unsuccessful, but as time passes, this entry will affect your score less and less--until it falls off in 2 1/2 years.
