I am NOT a competitor of HESS KENNEDY. I am an ex-client. DO NOT use a settlement company. I settled on my own with my creditors and came out so much better. I may not have gotten as much off, but my creditors are happy and my reputation is restored with them. I was amazed at how nice my creditors were and how much information they gave me on cleaning up my credit. I paid between 30% - 60% of my debt, depending on the creditor, all on my own. I had a hardship situation. They were so helpful, even the people at the collection companies went out of their way to help me. The person on here that said Hess Kennedy guarantees a 100% refund of your money if you are unhappy is partially right. They only pay back the money you deposit for your bills. They DO NOT refund the down payment or retainer. It is NOT REFUNDABLE. PLEASE DO NOT USE A SETTLEMENT COMPANY! My only motivation in posting this to protect others from getting in the same situation I did. When you are in a desperate situation...losing that much money is devastating. I was very stupid!! Good Luck!

Essenae, as you have said it is always better to deal directly with the original creditor if possible. Let me also add that creditors want to get their money back. If they are ignoring a debtor for the first time, one should not lose patience. Re-negotiation is important and it is quite likely that a proposal for settlement will be accepted.

If it is too tough to "settle" with the creditors, one should look for a debt settlement company that is a reputed firm. It is always advisable to check with the local BBB and the DA's office for consumer feedbacks. All consumer complaints against a firm are recorded there.

It's always better to do things in writing. Lots of templates on the debt forums.

Hi,

This might be of some help. You can use this if it suits your purpose. I would say written communication is the best way to communicate. Send through certified mail so that you have a receipt of the same. Keep a copy to yourself. All these should be done to stay within the legal bounds.

Re: [Your account no]

Dear Sir/ Madam,

Due to certain financial hardships I was unable to start with the payments towards my debt. Now I am in a position to pay the debt.

I would like to suggest a strategy if it is acceptable.

(Relate your financial trouble, only as much is required for official purposes)

I am sure you will agree to the situation which has caused this fallout. Please feel free to have one of your representatives call me and work out the final strategy.

If you feel, you cannot accept the payment plan; you can suggest one on this account. I intend to pay creditors who can work for me.

Thanks for your cooperation,

Sincerely,
