Can I get delinquency off of credit rep if lender unwilling?

I have gotten a 30 day late from the holder of my Perkins Loan. I have disputed the truthfulness of the delinquency, because I made a good faith effort to pay, which was unsuccessful due to a computer glitch on the part of the lender. How can I get the delinquency off of my credit report if the lender is being uncooperative?

Since you are only 30 days late, it is not considered a delinquent account and will not affect your credit score much. However, you should make your account current as soon as possible. This late mark will stay in your credit report for two years from the date you make your account current. You can talk to your creditor to reage your account so that the late mark gets removed from your report. Normally, the creditor agrees to it if you pay the late fees.

Thanks for the response Carol. Do you know how long you typically have to wait until they typically would agree to reage the account? Also, the upsetting part of this whole thing is that the amount that they are saying was 30 days past due is only $9.00. I paid that Perkins loan flawlessly from a balance of $7,000 all the way down to $1,600. Now because of a $9.00 discrepancy I have a 30 day late on my otherwise great credit report. The other upsetting part of it is that I was just negotiating a refi on my home mortgage which will more than likely suffer bc of a new negative mark. Would the 30 day late mark go away if I just pay off the remaining balance? I'm really trying to not lose my refi deal. It will cost me much more than the $9.00 or even the $1600 in only a matter of months. I truly would appreciate any advice.

I have a Student loan, as well. I think a Perkins loan is a 'Federal' loan, too. Their pretty strict on 'removing' late payments. Unless you received something in writing, from the Lender, stating the 30 late payment will be removed, I don't think it will come off. Even if you paid the loan in full, I believe the late payment would still be there.

how long do you have to wait to get a deliqueant account off your credit report. I have a credit card from 2002 when can i get it off my credit report. Also two were paid with a settlement and they only marked one as paid. They sent me a new bill after all this time requesting payment, do I have to wait additional years now to get it off my report?
