Paid charge off

Hi,

I have a good credit report. However, the only delinquency I have on my credit report is a charge off for 2507 from Verizon wireless. I joined a credit monitoring website this March, and was taken aback by a hard inquiry by verizon wireless. I called verizon and was told an account had been opened in my name and was 3 months behind for a total of 1100! After some research i found out that this account was opened by my mother because they required her to pay a deposit for obvious reasons. I filed fraud with verizon but was denied because my address was the same as my mothers and she refused to pay. I was stuck with the bill that i could not pay before it charged off.

I did'nt know about the pay for delete and just went ahead and paid the bill. I called the collection agency and they said it would not be removed. Few days later I received a letter from verizon stating that it was confirmation that amendments have been filed to have the above referenced account as deleted from my credit report.

After some days i noticed that it was still on my credit report. I called verizon and they stated that it will not be removed and that they sent me this letter by mistake. Even if this was by mistake, does this letter give me leverage to have it removed?

Thanks

Hi Reyhurn,

Yes, you can use that letter to dispute the charge-off off your credit report. However, you could have disputed this item before making the payments, because this is a clear case of identity theft.

Thanks,

Aaron

You can call the CB's and explain about the ID Theft (I'm really sorry to hear about all of this, by the way@@). You can have a 'freeze' put on your Credit (I had this dome at one time). With this 'freeze', if anyone 'inquiries' about your credit, the CB's will notify you.
