If you apply for public aid does that hurt credit in anyway? Or show up on credit report?

I am in the right direction for getting stuff paid-off. So if public aid hurts credit in anyway I might have to pay for hospital bills on my own!

Public Aid is there to help those in need. I've used it, a few times, in the are, where I live. I live in a small community and ALOT of places ( Churches, Assistance, etc.) really help.

I don't think what you said was bad at all. Sure it didn't have anything to do with credit repair but I sure it made the OP feel better about getting public aid. Sometimes it helps to know you aren't alone.

Applying for any type of aid will not affect your credit, they do not report to any type of reporting agency. You don't have to worry about that. goodluck with your situation.

I don't think anything like that shpuld be reported anyway. People aren't always just asking for and hand out some honestly just want a hand up.

Hi anita
If you go for public aid, there is no need to feel bad because it is your right to go for the aid. Moreover, this aid will not be included as a negative in your credit report and you need not pay it off also. Moreover, if you take a credit for your food and you you are unable to repay it off in time, then your credit score may get affected.

Justin...I didn't quite understand this part here. Did you mean if she uses a credit card for food and can not pay it then it would effect her credit.

Yes, instead of borrowing from creditors it is always wise to take the aid from the government which you need not repay back. But if you go for a loan to survive, you need to repay it back within a stipulated time period and if you cannot afford to repay back because of the economic situation in which you do not have any job with you, it will be reflected in your credit report and will adversely affect your credit score. Moreover, if the creditor charges off the loan account, your credit score may even fall by as much as 100 points.

I agree with you alot here Mary. It is best to take the Public Aid. Some people feel that this is not something they could do but that is what the syatem is there for...It is a hand up not a hand out and anyone who has to use it for a rough period should not feel embarrased. It is the people whom use it for a lifetime and not try to work. If you need it and don't abuse it then go and get the help. Sooner or later everything will work out and you won't always need it.
