reducing my current wage garnishment they currently taking 25% per week.......is there anything i can do to get this amount reduced to a lesser % per week

I think 25 % garnishment per week is the modest value what they are charging so if you want to further reduce this then you need to file a petition to the same court who gave the decision of the garnishments of the wages and with the permission of the court you can get the % reduced.

I myself am in a situation where I am to have my wages garnished. The only problem is that they are garnishing my wages for local income taxes for the year 2004, when I didn't live in the city the year they claim I owe the taxes for. Would a petition to the court be able to entirely stop the wage garnishment if it is incorrect?

I would petition the ccourt. If you did not live or work in that area they would have no rights to collect taxes from you. They will need to know however what area you did live and work in to be sure you paid local taxes there. If you have this proof, which your tax collecotr could help you get, it would show that you were paying local at the time. I just went through this nightmare recently after moving. My tax collector helped me get it straightened around.

My husband got over his head in credit cards, we are now being sued by the credit card companies. If they garnish my wages, I will probably loose my job. My husband has already received notice he will have to go to court regarding one credit card, I will be next. What can I do to keep from having my wages garnished. My husband has been making payment throug the court on his card, however the company does not appear to accept this. Any suggestions

Hi Barb,

If they garnish my wages, I will probably loose my job.

According to the Consumer Credit Protection Act (CCPA), an employer cannot fire you from job, if your wages are garnished for a single debt.

Your husband can file a petition to the court that issued the wage garnishment order. The court might agree to a monthly payment plan, to pay off the card debt. To prevent your wages from garnishment, you should try to negotiate with your creditors. If you can give a valid reason, for not being able to pay on time, they may accept a payment plan.
