I have over about $122,000 in student loan debt, one credit card and one auto loan. How can I build my credit score?

Hi Guest,

More information about your accounts would have been of some help in answering your query. However, the very first step to improve credit score is to get hold of a copy of your credit report. It is available free, once a year. You can get a copy from the website under annual credit report. Then you should check, if there are any negative listings on your credit report. If there are, you should try to pay off the dues that you have been delinquent upon.

Payment history plays the most important part in maintaining and increasing the score. So remain current on accounts. Maintain credit card balance at least below 50% of the available credit.

As for the student loan, you can check out the various repayment plans. These repayment plans can help you in paying the debts, as per your ability. As you pay off the debt, your credit score will consequently increase too.

Did you know that if you go into public service the federal government may forgive part to all of your loan?

Thanks so much for the advice. I have no negative listings on my credit report. However my credit card balance is above 50%. I am not in repayment of the loans just yet. My credit score is 687+ <-- something I found out yesterday as I went to trade in my car. I was also wondering if I got the car how would that effect my score? The bank would pay the rest of my existing loan and I would open another loan.
