Getting something off credit report

I just found out when I was signed onto my EX fiance's apartment that went onto my credit report. He lived in an apartment and I signed on as a secondary a few months into the innitial signing for the apartment. Things got pretty bad and we broke up.He was harassing me and it got to the point I had to get the police involved. Per the officer i dealt with, she said we could have no more contact or if he continued to try to talk to me, she could take the route to get a restraining order. I took my name off the apartment. The apartment assistants said as long as one of the signers was on the lease that it wouldn't be breaking it. Now that is on my credit report. Is there any way to get it off my record?

did you get any proof that you were off the lease? Was the rent paid when you took your name off?

Hi Popkorn,

One thing that you can do is dispute the item with the credit bureaus, mentioning that the debt was not incurred by you. However, you need to provide them with enough proof that you are not the original debtor.

Hope this helps.

Aaron

Actually states and cities have specific laws about the rights of renters. OP should read these and see what protection exists. Perhaps proof of renting another place while boyfriend was still at old place would help

Hi barbie,

If you had been more clear with your question, I would have been able to tell something about social security.

However social security is a kind of insurance program for the common man, to provide with protection against certain social conditions like old age, disability, poverty, unemployment etc. Social Security cannot be garnished under Federal Law.

Hi,

Aaron, i would like to say that Social Security is not an insurance, but a kind of benefit for the common man and the old people. Social Security Benefits cannot be garnished. However, it is only garnishable for recovery of child support, alimony and Federal Taxes.

Regards,

Sharon.
