does it matter if you know your credit score or not?
whats the differance if you know or not.

My son just called me at 6:45 a.m this morning and we had a two and a half hour chat. Even a few tears got shed. I just told him that it was time to start taking his life in another direction before it is too late. I am not sure if he listened to all the advice but we sure got alot off our chests. I had to straighten up alot of myths granny stuck in his head about me. I am hoping he will turn hisself in do the time and come back and contribute to the world.

Credit Score is important because this is where creditors figure out if you're a good credit risk or not.

Hi mirage12
As far as I know, creditors always pull out the credit report first while determining your creditworthiness. This is because credit report consists of your detailed credit history for the past seven years which gives them a clear idea of how you are in repaying the debt. Then they check the credit score to determine the interest rate and other fees which they would charge. Lower credit score would imply that you are a high risk borrower and hence the interest charges become high.

I believe the system was put into place for good reason. I just thin k that it needs to be updated a little bit for the debtor.

Thu, 08/28/2008 - 12:15 Permalink

You got it and they should take information from the borrower, they let the collection agencies do whatever they insist on they list what we tell them as long as we have the proof to back it up. That is one change I would like to see happpen.

Depends on what your score is, someone with a really good score will get a better rate for sure, but some one with a moderate score will also be able to borrow, they will just get a much higher rate than the person with the higher score. I don't think that your score will determine wether you get the loan or not, but it does determine at what rate you will get the money.

Someone with a terrible score may be turned down for a loan altogether.

Very true guys. I think credit score is very important at anytime in life. Even if you don't need any loans at one time doesn't mean life won't throw you na curve ball and you find you really do need that credit score to get the loan that will pull you through.

Tue, 09/02/2008 - 01:37 Permalink

I agree and you should always be aware of where your credit is, it never hurts to stay abreast and keep working on keeping and maintaining good credit, you just never know when you may have to borrow money and you will want to get the best rate possible.

Its a situation that happened to me this past year. Had my husband not have had good credit I am not sure what we would have done. I can see how people do turn to high interest loans and payday lenders. If you have no where else to turn what can you do.? I wouldn't advice it to anyone but if it was all you could do....

Tue, 09/02/2008 - 22:08 Permalink

you hit the nail right on the head, some people have no choice, it is sink or swim, so many times the payday lender seems like a solution but they end up being a bigger problem in the end.

True. I am struggling myself pretty bad. It seems these days we are just getting by. My biggest worry is fuel and taxes. I really wish they would find a way to get rid of taxes. I swear this $1200 a year is unreal. Do you relize in ten years that you will have paid $12,ooo in taxes? Think now that this is money that could be put down on your mortgage. Sucks.

Thu, 09/04/2008 - 01:27 Permalink

Oh, don't I know about the taxes, it is one of your rights, to live, eat, die and pay taxes.

Thu, 09/04/2008 - 01:29 Permalink

I have always heard old people say that, all they have to do is die and pay taxes. Haven't you ever heard that before?

Thu, 09/04/2008 - 23:45 Permalink

Many many many times...especially from the mother in law. She was good at having all these little sayings. The one I hated the most is if you were talking about bills due she would say "Hey you can't take hair off a toad" She said this millions of times when I would talk about getting behind.

Thu, 09/04/2008 - 23:49 Permalink

I'll give her your number and enlighten you. Did you see any lowering in your property taxes this year. We were suppose to see a cut and I can not tell since I am paying taxes on mmore land and in a different area. I use to live in a borough on a half acre and now live on two acres plus double the home and pay less than what I did before I moved. I was impressed.

Sat, 09/06/2008 - 01:56 Permalink

Yeah the guy at work seen about a $150 break this year, I have to wait till the middle of this month and check out my escrow to see if there was any difference from last year. I hope I really get tired of paying all these taxes.

Sat, 09/06/2008 - 19:40 Permalink

That would be nice to finally see a break from taxes, I don't think that I have ever seen that happen before, they always go up but never come down.

Sun, 09/07/2008 - 13:24 Permalink

Mine are paid about the middle of the month by my mortgage company through escrow, I can not view anything until then. I will let you know if I see any difference or not.

Sun, 09/07/2008 - 18:40 Permalink

Cool. I still believe that property taxes are a load. Just like when yolu add on or try to improve your home and you have to pay for permits. Even something as little as adding a porch on. This gets old. GN does your mortgage payment fluxuate? If you do gfet a reduction on taxes shouldn't somewhere along the lines you see a lower payment?

Sun, 09/07/2008 - 18:51 Permalink

No, my mortgage rate is a fixed rate, at the end of the year they will review my escrow and see if they added enough to pay all the insurances and the taxes. If they have a surplus they will send me a check, if it is not enough then the will raise my payment about $10. Usually I get a check for around $300 at the end of the year from them. My actual house payment is about 3/4 of my payment, the rest is escrow, but I don't have to worry about paying those high taxes at the end of the year. I always had to take out a loan to do it, now they just take a little each month, which I am not disciplined enough to do myself.

Sun, 09/07/2008 - 21:10 Permalink

That is a really cool idea and you really wouldn't even miss it along the way. Usuallly I had alot of work most of teh year. My injury and the downslide of teh company I worked for made this a really hard year. It was also made worse because of all my lost work last year got me behind and Moving my hame added alot of bills. I am hoping to get back on track and figure out what to do next. I have a new company working with me and it gives me a little work here and there but also lets me in endless pain by days end. I will figure it all out later...I can only deal with so much at a time.

It is important to know where you stand, debt-wise. That means knowing what credit report bureaus and lending and credit organizations think of you. Not as a person, but as a credit risk.

Thu, 09/11/2008 - 02:34 Permalink

This is very true. I have learned this well over the past year.

Thu, 09/11/2008 - 16:54 Permalink

Sometimes I just need a break from it though, so I have been paying my bills on time, got a new card with a small limit to try and rebuild, just used it today, spent a how $36, I will pay it off in two months to try and establish a small payment history.

I am not gonna look at my credit report for at least a year to see if I can get anywhere with this thing, hopefully I will be surprised in a good way.

Sat, 09/13/2008 - 00:29 Permalink

You got the right idea GN. Never pay anything off as soon as you charge it if you are trying to rebuild your credit. A couple monthly payments is the best. So what sexy wear did you purchase?

Sat, 09/13/2008 - 13:29 Permalink

I just went and used the card, I bought two pair of shoes for work, they were buy one get one half off and then I had the 10% off on top of that, so I got two pair of shoes for $36, now what do you suppose the minimum payment will be on that? LOL, I think I will pay it in two payments just to get a little history there, if they will let me do it in two.

Sun, 09/14/2008 - 20:11 Permalink

Probaly $10 . they have a set rate per hundred. Now that you have the card you will start getting some awesome coupons. $10 off $25. I just got a couple this week. I half to tell you though the best ones are the ones near holidays they are $10 off anything. So you can go purchase $10.01 and only pay .01 cent. I use to use them with my 40% enployee discount and get stuff for free. We were a little bad because we use to keep coupons people brought in and use them when the other was working. (you don't get anymore coupons once you are an employee). I have sneakers for the next 10 years. And purses...we won't go there.

Sun, 09/14/2008 - 23:49 Permalink

I did not find any kids clothes, but I think a new out fit for work every now and then will be okay, just to keep it active and as long as I keep it down where I can pay it off or do it in two payments then it will build my credit.

Mon, 09/22/2008 - 02:55 Permalink

Yes plus it would be nice to have the extra outfit here and there to treat yourself. If you are like me I always get for the others first..kids and hubby. Most of the time I look over doing things for myself. So with no kids clothes being available you are sure to find something for yourself. Remember to keep a small balance on the card and keep it active. This not only helps your credit score but if a card is inactive for so long they will close it due to inactivity.

Wed, 09/24/2008 - 16:52 Permalink

I am gonna go buy a new outfit on monday, I have an interview on wednesday for a supervisor position. There are six people interviewing. I love my job now, but there are a few guys that I would not want to work for so I put in for it, I figure make them fight for it, LOL.

Wed, 10/08/2008 - 02:52 Permalink

That is agood one. You should have been recieving some coupons in teh mail by now. I haev gotten a couple.

Here in America it is crucial you know your credit score. The lower your score the harder it will be to apply for a credit card, car loan or home loan. If you do qualify then you will most likely get high interest rates. If you have high credit scores then most likely you will get an atomatic approval and obtain low interest rates. Also, 95% of lenders will determine your credit worthiness by looking at your credit scores and not your credit history. Now a days, even employers and rental properties are looking at credit scores and not your credit history. If you do decide to get a copy of your reports I recommend my fico at http://tinyurl.com/orderFICO

If you do get them and you're under 700 then I recommend www.AttractiveCreditSecrets.com

I agree, knowing your credit score is vital, especially if you go to get a loan or a credit card.

Sun, 11/09/2008 - 02:20 Permalink

Up until recently people probaly didn't know that they could monitor there credit report for no cost. They started putting out those credit report commercials and it started to show people they had free access. Like me until I came here I had no idea I could pull my report up to three times with no fee. Then you got to remember not everyone has internet access and the address is never given on the commercials.

Sun, 11/09/2008 - 12:23 Permalink

Yes it really is. Makes me wonder how we ever got along with out it.

Sun, 11/09/2008 - 23:13 Permalink

I think it does matter a great deal if you know what your credit score is. You would have SOME idea whether you think you would possibly qualify for loans, CC's, etc. Also...(as we all know) a credit score is the consumer's 'worthiness' to a credit lender. We shouldn't be labeled with numbers, but, we are.

Tue, 01/03/2012 - 04:40 Permalink

Knowing your score is very important when you have plan to apply loan, credit, mortgage and not just that you can also monitor about identity theft.

ADOMS CREDIT REPAIR is the best! Adoms have great customer service!! He really knows what he is doing. I have had excellent results and I’m so excited. I really recommend the services of Adoms Credit Repair. My life changed the day I contacted Adomscreditrepair@cyberservices.com. He was highly recommended by my brother-in-law some couple of months ago, but I didn’t take him seriously until I got scammed by some impostors who claimed to be hackers; and I must say that I made the best decision when I finally decided to give him a try. Prior to having a conversation with ADOMS, my credit score was below 500. He raised my score to an excellent score, cleared the debts I had from student loans, erased the evictions on my credit report and cleared other negative reports I can’t begin to outline here. I just want to say ‘thank you’ to ADOMS for saving my ailing credit and for keeping to the promise you made from the onset. To anyone who needs help with any credit-related fix, no one is better at this than Adoms. Feel free and safe to email them on the address above and state your problems to him. Cheers!

My gratitude goes out to the entire team of Hack West Professional Credit Repair. Someone left information ((424) 307 2638, HACKWEST@WRITEME.COM) under a comment section on helping to repair credit. I was interested in knowing more and if the hacking team still does this. I had poor credit, an old bankruptcy and problems with getting approved for an apartment due to 2 broken leases from the past which I explained to HACK WEST when I made contact with them. They cleaned my credit records and they boosted my credit score within just few days of contacting them without charging much. They also referred me to their website. Thanks to you all for this great gesture.

I didn’t believe my report would get in good shape. I initially had a low score of 425, with 17 negative items on my report. Over 2 frustrating years of my unyielding search of a legit credit agent to help me fix my report, was really a waste of time, money and effort. 5 times, I got scammed by these so-called hack agents. My report even got in more bad shape as my score reduced to 398. At this point, I gave up on my report. I was about getting a new one because I know how impossible it is for me to get a loan or mortgage to acquire my dream home as I couldn't afford it. One day, I got a message from a former workmate who has relocated a year back, asking me to mail; HACKWEST@WRITEME.COM and get my credit issues fixed. Due to my previous encounters, I felt reluctant at first, but later gave it a try due to the fact that a friend recommended it to me. Surprisingly, in just 10days, my report became better in good shape as my score increased to 751 and all my negative items removed. I'm actually typing from my dream home as I live comfortable right now. If you've been in similar dilemma with your report, you could contact Hack West through the above email or text (424) 307 2638 and get your problems solved.

If you have 'bad' credit, some consumers can still get credit. However...if it's a 'High risk' CC or something similiar, your % rate may be very high. Sometimes you can get loans using your own savings account as collateral. Kind of an 'in house credit' (at your bank or credit union). And, that really helps to build your credit with them because they (banks, credit unions) do report that to the CRA's as you paying off a loan. 'Baby steps' is the way to go!! When I divorced (5 years ago) my credit score was below a 300. NOW..it's 550 to 600!! Trust me..the 'baby steps' method does work. It takes time to build your credit up again.
