Payoff Discount Offer

Submitted by daveinchico on Thu, 02/21/2008 - 20:25

I had a telephone bill that was given to a collections company. The original amount was just under $600.

I have been given a payoff offer from the collections company for the amount of $272.

I'd be just happy to pay the lower amount of course. My question is: Would my credit score ultimately benefit by paying the original amount, or would that increase my 'sucker-score'?

True but when money is so tight its hard to let it go. I can say that if I had it I would get rid of my last old account. I hate when an unknown number comes up and I don't know who it is. Sometimes it is actually a phone call I needed.

Yes and then they do and get my hubby upset. Seems like I am forevr dodging phone calls and running to get the mail. A couple is old debt and then the little bit of new debt i applied for at Christmas he doesn't know about. I just could not come up with the money to get all these family gifts. there are so many kids and we had three sides of family to do. I really wish we would draw names since it only makes Christmas stressful and adds to the debt.
I think they had the right idea about Christmas in the past. Now it has become more of "I want" instead of "i need" or just a simple "thank you".

I know what you mean fireyone, again it is all about getting back to the basics. I think debt works on your nerves and your confidence level too. I am really glad that it is election time because I can say it is the election campaigners calling for support again, every now and then they will leave a message and I will let him listen to it. To say see I told you.

I started shooting again today, started with the 22 and then the 357, hubby has been working alot at night and I have not shot in about 10 years, today my hands were shaking bad but after a box on each pistol I was fine, I need to shoot more often to keep my comfort zone up. I feel a lot better about it now.

Tell me you are not practicing in case they debt collectors come a calling. LOL!!!! Sometimes I just feel like telling him everything up front. I get so tired of hearing him say "princess, don't worry about ikt". Especially concerning the Lowes debt. He just can't get it through his head that once we tranfer this debt to a bank It will ba a large monthly payment. He is use to seeing $50. I explain that it is low because most of the purcheases were no interest, no payment. I still getI can handle it".
If I really thought he could I would throw the checkn=book at him and say "go for it big boy".

Sun, 09/14/2008 - 23:54 Permalink

No, just practicing for protection.

I know what you mean with the men, they have it all figured out, so far all I have seen is they like to spend but they forget that the bill will come in the mail later. Then they spend and spend and spend. and then ask you where all the money went! (banging head against the wall!!!!!!!)

Sounds as if we have the same hubby. Just recently we were at the mall and he went to Sears to look at Hammer drills to finish putting boars around our foundation. I asked him what was wrong with the one he had of my brothers and he said it was pretty junkie. Hell who cares it wasn't costing us to use it. No not good enough...$130 later he got the drill AND finished putting up all THREE boards. I was soooooooooooooooo aggravated.

Wed, 09/24/2008 - 17:09 Permalink

Sounds like you girls need to set the hubbies down and have a heart to heart. Just tell them no more spending until you get some stuff paid off.

Sat, 09/27/2008 - 23:13 Permalink

Mine just doesn't get the whole big picture. He sees it as as soon as I get the settlement all those huge debts will be paid so we aren't as bad off as I make it out to be. He feels that I should go to the head shrink that my pain clinic doctors are suggesting because I am letting everything work on me too much and it makes everything else seem worse. Well I don't see it this way. In my screwed up head Discover and Lowes are huge monsters that follow me to bed night after night. I think my worries are valid.

Sun, 09/28/2008 - 16:25 Permalink

I think so too, you can not assume that you will get a big settlement, I was in an accident and only walked away with $8000, that is not crap, it will all depend on how much money the other persons insurance is willing to pay. I hope you get enough to pay off everything.

Mon, 09/29/2008 - 03:00 Permalink

Yep Thats what I keep telling him. And even with the amount you got that would not even pay off both those bills in full. Sometimes this whole wait and see thing makes me nuts. It is not like I want a big spending spree I just want to pay off these debts because the monthly payments are high and gonna run out on the 0% interest really soon. I wish he would be just a little more logical and quit living in dreamland. So waht if its a lim its case..the lim its in PA could be as low as $15000.

yeah you never know, my aunt has been doctoring for over two years now, she can not have surgery on the injury because her heart will not take it. They called her last week and offered her $7500, unbelievable.

Wed, 10/08/2008 - 03:09 Permalink

I really think that is bull crap. Does your aunt have an atty? Sometimes they say to settle things on your own but evrytime I hear of people trying to do that it isn't a good turn out because they feel they can mess with you for an eternity before making a reasonable offer.
What happened to your aunt?

Wed, 10/08/2008 - 22:08 Permalink

She was sitting still and a car came flying up and smashing into the rear of her vehicle, her grandson was in with her, he got i THINK $4500 and it was ordered into the bank until her is 21, I guess it is the law for.

Fri, 10/24/2008 - 02:21 Permalink

Yep that is the law now. I believe that it is really fair. I think of the time my hubby got an accident settlement when he was 15 and his mom took him to open an account with the few thousand he had left after he bought himself a dirt bike. It was suppose to be saved for a car. Well shortly after he bought the bike he came home from school and his mother had sold it to "keep the electricity on". A few months later he turned sixteen got his license but never got the car...she also drained his bank account...to go to Florida...with out him...

Parents 'mishandle' their kid's money alot. It shouldn't happen this way, but..it does. I'm sorry to hear this, too. This is your CHILD'S money, not yours.

Mon, 10/27/2008 - 15:16 Permalink

Thats how I feel about it also. They could use it to help pay for a trade school or college, to buy a vehicle or down payment on a home...why take what ir rightfully theirs. We may feel this way but I know there are a lot m ore out there that probaly don't think of the children first.

Mon, 10/27/2008 - 22:39 Permalink

No..right now I can't afford the 'offer' and they won't take payments, either. Soo.................do I just 'don't worry about it'? If PDL's are illegal, how can CA's do this in the first place. This PDL was via the web.

Tue, 10/28/2008 - 16:44 Permalink

I asked this at one time and I think the answer I got was that it was still like a loan. Iwasn't really satisfied with that answer. I think if they are illegal, which they are in PA, they shouldn't be allowed to collect. It would serve them right and it could be a good form of punishment for them...Of course the state would problay want to fine them so they can collect the money and profit from the disadvantage instead of the actual victim.

I think that both the pay day loan lenders and people like us who take the loan are guilty. If it is illegal, neither we should opt for the loan, not they should offer such type of loans to us. Now, it is illegal and both the creditor and the debtor has done the illegal thing. Creditor are fined by the government for doing illegal business and so they have the full right to get back the money they have already lent, because for illegal lending they have paid the fine money to the government. However, after collecting the money they cannot continue in PDL business. Most PDL lenders sell off the loans to the CA who collects the outstanding debt.

Fri, 10/31/2008 - 11:33 Permalink

True, they will sell it off and then you have the annoying collector to deal with. So if you borrowed it, at least pay back what you owe, what you borrowed anyway.

Definately the best advice here. You can not relize just how exasperating it is to dodge collectors or the worst part when they first resell the debt to a new agency and they hound you and family members for months.

Sun, 11/02/2008 - 00:36 Permalink

Geez must have been a big brain fart..forgot to sign in. anyway that last post was me.

Sun, 11/02/2008 - 00:40 Permalink

GOODNATURED.....I'm gonna go back to your comment. " pay back what you owe." I've already done that. However, the CA is telling that I have to "legally pay back all of the fees, too." I just don't think i will.

Sun, 11/02/2008 - 13:17 Permalink

SD I am pretty sure you will have to pay back the fees. GN isn't on here alot much so maybe you should leave her a PM so she can answer this question.

Mon, 11/03/2008 - 11:58 Permalink

I wouldn't and you know what if they are not cooperative they will just sell it off to another and hopefully they will be more cooperative. you know how it works sd, just give it some time. How old is the debt?

Sat, 11/08/2008 - 13:11 Permalink

Well I would attempt the debt validation to see if they are legally able to collect it.

Tue, 11/11/2008 - 02:15 Permalink

Hi Chargers
You need to pay back the entire outstanding debt including their fees because the fees also constitute a part of the debt. However, before paying off the debt if you can negotiate with the collection agency for a discount on the outstanding debt, you can avoid the fees. Most of the CAs may settle for 60 to 80% of the outstanding debt. But this negotiation should be done before you start paying them off. You should check you credit report for the outstanding amount of the debt, they have mentioned there.

Wed, 11/12/2008 - 03:37 Permalink

I've received offers, as well....."if I pay so & so amount." I look on my CR (if possible) and I see if the debt is on there. If it is, then I look at the SOL. USUALLY alot of these CA's want you to 're-start' the debt (the SOL time wll start over) and I wouldn't want to do that. Just some 'personal experience' advice for all of you. :D

Hello guys, when you want to upgrade your credit score or have an element removed from your credit report online I suggest you contact XAP CREDIT SOLUTION. Back in 2018 I had a major setback, if you think your credit was bad mine was terrible. I also had evictions that made getting an apartment difficult. My wife has a condition and I needed a loan but I couldn’t, she got seriously ill, my family needed serious help. So i was asking questions on how to steady raise my credit scores, the answers i got did not look like what could get my credit score up in near time. I got notification from a forum and lot of testimonies about a group of ethical hackers called XAP. Via their mail XAPCREDITSOLUTION@GMAIL.COM I contacted them. In 9 days they deleted all the negatives and repos. Thanks to them my score kept increasing until it got to 780. You can text them via (972) 597 9704. I sincerely recommend them. If you are serious with them they will be serious with you. Your testimony is sure…

My surgery loan just got approved and that’s why I’m testifying. Last month I was reading an article on Trulia and I came across a comment about a credit fixer called Xap credit solution and how they helped people get their lives back. I was actually trying to get help last month in other to fix my credit. My credit was in the 400s, I had negatives. I had applied for a surgery loan but couldn’t get an approval. However, I contacted Xap and we reached an agreement. I was really serious about it. And in 10 days my credit was good again, he removed bankruptcy, verified the changes with 3 credit bureaus. I’m in the 700s and I have some positives right now, I never knew that life could turn out this way for me. I am a living proof that they are truly good at what they do. You could email or text them ( xapcreditsolution@gmail.com. (972) 597 9704). It’s my little way of showing gratitude.

I initially had a low score of 535, with 7 negative items on my report. Over two frustrating years of my unyielding search of a good and reliable credit agent to help me fix my report, it was really a waste of time, money and effort. 2 times, I got scammed by these so-called hack agents. My report even got in more bad shape as my score reduced to 450. One day, I got a call from a former workmate who told me about a hacker called Hack West and get my credit issues fixed. Due to my previous encounters, I felt reluctant at first, but later gave it a try due to the fact that my trusted mate recommended them. Surprisingly, in just 72 hours, my report became better in good shape as my score increased to 780+ and all my negative items removed and moreover West added two tradelines to my report. I'm actually typing from my dream home as I live comfortably right now. If you're in similar dilemma with your report, you can contact: HACKWEST at WRITEME dot COM / Text or Whatsapp: +1 (424) 307-2638. Trust me; they’re reliable, honest and ready to serve you better. Contact them for all kinds of Credit fix, Chex system and DUI repair.
