Removing discharged items from credit report

I filed bankruptcy in Feb 09. My debts were discharged through chapter 7. I would like to know if I can remove the negative items from my credit report. I have read some of your posts and I understand that I can dispute something that I think is incorrect, but the fact that I did not and could not pay the creditors is correct. So can I still try to dispute those entries? Also can creditors still report to the credit breau after the discharge date? All of the creditors that were discharged are still reporting monthly but with a zero balance. My thought is they should not be reporting anymore because it is over. Your thoughts??

Hi sherip1966

The negative items from your record will be automatically removed after 7-10 years. If they don't get removed, you can dispute them with the bureaus and they will remove them for you. However, if there are inaccuracies in your record, you can dispute them according to the FCRA.

Thanks for your reply. I need one more question answered. My bankruptcy was discharged on 5/27/09. There are creditors that were dischard but they are still reporting to the bureaus, in the past 2 months there have been entries to all three. Are the creditors allowed to continue to report even though these items were discharged?

Hi sheri

You are welcome :)

I would suggest that at first you try to dispute the debts in accordance with the instructions from the credit bureaus and still if it isn't fixed get in touch with an attorney
