How is it and is it legal for a bank to put a sure to pay credit acct. onto a mac card/checking acct. when they reuse you credit, ands tell you no to a 18% interest card and then charge you 200% interest on an overdraft? I paid for a cup of coffee on my way down to see my son get back from Iraq and the coffee was 1.91 and I was charged 30.00 by the mac company. I filed a complaint with the atty. Generals office today online because this bank says I cant use my money that they are holding it. I am broke down now, in a truck stop with no money, my car is almost out of gas and my bank says no- not there problem. I do have a positive balance of $899 in my acct. But my concern is I am disabled and they charged me $600 in the past 30 days for od chgs that total 250.00. I dont know what to do. Is this legal????

Hi Ruthie,

I don't think that whatever they are doing is legal. You must contact an attorney to find a way out of this problem. Whatever you do keep the attorney general in the loop.

Thankyou Justin, I went back to Pa, and the bank did put half of the money into the acct. But they keep doing this. I am transferring my SS checks to another bank and I will file a federal complaint as well. The only income I have is SS and it is directly deposited in this acct. They keep doing this every month. I will let you know how it goes. Thankyou for your help. Ruthie

Does not sound like something is right here, I think you are doing the right thing by switching over your account to a different bank and filing the complaint as well, hopefully you will get all your money back.

I would imagine the atty general will get you answers as quickly, especially with it being Social security. That is something that can not even be attached. Did the bank tell you why this is going on? Why did the bank say they are holding your money? I would not even mess with doing anything on line. You should call your atty general tomorrow morning. They do answer the calls and put you through. If perhaps he is doing something else at the moment he will return your call as soon as possible and that same day. Call tomorrow, don't let it go any further.
