SOL on medical collections in ID?

Does anyone have an idea of what the SOL is in Idaho for medical collections? I have a CA that is desperately trying to collect for five medical accounts that are at or past the SOL and I would love to write them a letter to tell them to bug off.

Hi JustJenni,

The Statute of Limitations (SOL) in Idaho for medical debt is 4 years. So, can you tell when was your last payment made on this account?

However, you should know that though the SOL may have expired on this debt, the collection agency can continue with their colelction process. With the expiry of SOL, the collector will not be able to win a lawsuit against you for not making the payments. However, that does not mean that you can't continue with their collections.

Thanks,

Aaron

Thanks! This CA is trying to collect on five small medical bills which together total about $200. Three are just past the five year mark, one will be five years on August 5th, and one will be five years on October 6th. I'm going to write them a validation letter asking them, among other things, to validate that they are within the SOL to collect.

Hi,

You need not send any validation letter to them for Statute of limitations (SOL). You should first check when was the last payment made on these accounts. If it's been 4 years from that date, then the SOL has expired.

Thanks,

Aaron
