Removing paid collection from credit report

Hello all!

I am trying to clean up my credit. Two days back I answered a call from a CA regarding a medical bill I owed. I told them to refer the bill back to the original creditor and they told me they couldn't do that. I didn't know where to take the conversation from there, so I just hung up.

I immediately checked my credit report and discovered that this has been reported as a delinquency on my credit since 1/22/10. Next, I call to find out who was the original creditor. However, I could not get that far because the lady told me I could just pay her if I wanted. I jumped at the chance and just payed over the phone. She said she will mail me the receipt.

The bill is paid, but the item is still there on my credit report. How do I get the CA to remove the item completely from my report? Will a simple dispute with the credit reporting agencies take care of it?

Any help you guys can provide will be greatly appreciated.

Hi Vonn,

Do you think you will be able to get hold of any payment proof or did you by chance record the conversation? Though you have paid off the bill I don't think the collection agency is going to update the account status. Still you can wait and see if you get the payment receipt.

According to a new law medical bills once paid off should be removed by the collection agency from the credit report within 30-45 days of the payment. So, if you receive the payment receipt or any kind of proof of the payment dispute this item with the credit bureaus.

Thanks,

Aaron

Yes, I did record the conversation and the State I live in allows us to record conversations. Can I use it to prove that I have made the payment?
