Closed card accounts reported

Hi,

I have several (15) closed credit card accounts. These are still there on my credit report, most of them are still be reported on. Unfortunately enough, I don't remember the dates that I closed the accounts on.

Can the credit card companies go on reporting closed accounts and does this start the 7 years over each time they report?

Hi Lon,

If an account gets closed, it does not necessarily mean that the account will be removed from your credit report. These will fall off of their own after some time. Did you pay off the dues on all of these accounts? If yes, check whether or not all these accounts are reported as "Paid" and are showing a zero balance.

If any of the accounts are showing any balance, you need to dispute that with the credit bureaus along with the proof of your payments.

Thanks,

Aaron

Hi Lon,

Any item once reported generally stays on your credit report for 7 years. After these 7 years they fall off from your credit report. Thus, even if you have closed down accounts, these will be there on your credit report with the status as closed.

Thanks
