Freezing credit report

Hello,

I'm trying to place a credit freeze, or some type of lock on all three credit reporting agency without having to pay a fee. I have more credit than I need, and more CU accounts than I need.

So what is the best way to go about this? If I place a freeze on the 3 CB's, how long will the freeze last? I will work on raising the limits in my Savings & Checking accounts. And the exciting thing is, I don't have to ask a CSR for an increase in my Savings & Checking, and I get to avoid the excessive bank inquiries to the credit bureaus.

Advise anyone?

Hi Rane,

You will have to inform the credit bureaus about the credit freeze. However, this can cost you some money atleast and the amount may vary according to the state you live in.

The freeze will last till you want to lift it. If you want you can get credit monitoring from any of the credit bureaus like Equifax or TransUnion free of charge. When you will opt out of this, you will have to notify the credit bureaus about it again.

Thanks,

Aaron
