Hi,

The previous apartment i stayed in had charged me 290$ + 100$ my security deposit . I sent them a reply why i dispute their claim. i had spent 200$ at move out to clean the apartment and also steam cleaning. But they still charged me. They reported me to a collection agency for not paying and i send the collection agency a reply why i dispute their claim. Now collection agency has not replied back to my reply but send me a letter saying the interest on the 290 will be increasing . How do i handle this situation. Please advice.

Thanks
ren

Did you send them a debt validation letter? Once you do this, you'll come to know about the sources of your debt. If they don't send a proper reply, then it will be easier for you to handle it.

Hi,

What is the pre-requisite to send the DV letter. Now it has been more than a month since the CA has sent me the first letter. Before the 30 day period i did send my reply. Now i have a got a reply from them which does not even consider my reply saying my interest is increasing. I wanted to know if i can send a DV letter only within 30 days since i received from my first letter from the CA Agency

Please advice

Thanks

if the first letter disputed the debt and asked for validation then the second letter is illegal.

This is a vital step that must be taken whenever you are contacted by a collection agency. It is a letter sent by certified mail with return receipt requested. It must be sent within 30 days of the first letter sent by the CA(collection agency). The collection agency must validate the debt before they can list this debt on your credit report, or call your house all day.

tell us about the first letter

what kind of debt is this?
