My mom answered the door and was given an alias summons for me. Not sure but do I need to get a lawyer and no way can I be in court since I have a new job. What can they do if its a default judgement. I live in Missouri. thank you..Kathy

You haven't explained much about why you're being served with summons. So, we don't have a fair idea on your debt amount. Still, you must know that the other party might obtain a judgment against you and then they might even garnish your wages and property. A lawyer might represent you at the court of law, but then you'll need to pay him for this.

The summons was for a credit card..the original amt was around $450 and now the summons says $800...and court costs. I do expect to pay a lawyer, but hope it gets settled before the court date. I've never been thru this so this is new to me? Garnishment in Mo? Also, I intend to make a settlement payment but do not know what to do...hire a lawyer,etc..thanks for any help.
