I have about 10 payday loans out right now. I have had to close my checking account due to not being able to pay my home bills. As of today I received a call from one of the payday loan places stating that they are going to have me arrested if I don't pay them now. I live in north carolina. Can they do this???? Help!!!!!!!!!!!

You cannot get arrested for non-payment of debt. So, there's nothing to worry. Which are the payday loans? However, payday lending is prohibited in your state. So, you are supposed to pay back only the principal and no interest payments will have to be made. Try and pay back the principal, and if they still harass you file complaint with the SAG.

No, you can't be arrested for non-repayment of loans. Threatening to get you arrested is against the FDCPA, so do as the above poster has asked you to.

Payday lending is prohibited in North Carolina. That means all lenders in your state are illegal. Moreover, debts are civil case, not a criminal offense. So you can’t get arrested for that. You owe them nothing more than the principal balance. No interest, no fees. Close down your old bank account and open a new one to stop debiting money from your account. Don’t worry mate….they can’t take any legal action against you.

You cannot be arrested for not paying off the payday loans. Moreover, payday loans are strictly prohibited in NC. This means all the lenders of North Carolina are illegal.
