How do I know if a collection company is legitimate? Had 3 calls this week telling me they had papers ready to serve me. These are all old PDL from 2-3 years ago, but have been laid off, could not pay, now they are threatening me with serving papers. I am finding one of them, a web page on line, but not very detailed, could be a cover?

On a very limited income.

I have gotten myself in deep with these payday loans and don't know what to do. A few months ago I had surgery and needed money so I saw one of those commercials on TV, bad mistake. It's getting to the point where I can no longer afford to pay the payments every week. I sent out ACH revocations to each of the companies and that seems to be getting nowhere because they are now calling saying they are taking me to court. They're not just calling me but my family and my sister-in-law's family, which I have no clue how they got her family's information.

1. Seaside cash: took $400 loan, paid $75 so far. 2. Cash in a wink: took out loan for $400, have paid back $788. Sent them a letter about ACH and only communicate through email or mail. They keep saying I have to call. They also send texts about making a payment. Please advice on how to handle. I have successfully gotten two loans deemed paid in full thanks to advice on this site.
