'Annual Report' is good. first time I used them was last year. Also.....you can 'dispute' items, USING Annual Report. That way you can see your credit for free AND make 'corrections'.

Sun, 04/06/2008 - 13:02 Permalink

I use it too, I use one about every four months that way you can see if any changes are made, there are three different ones so if you space them out you can keep the year about covered.

Sun, 04/06/2008 - 23:09 Permalink

I just used annualcreditreport for the third time about a month ago and I always dispute my credit my mail as apposed to the net just because it is the easiest way to provide proof along with your dispute. You can also request a corrected up-to-date copy of your credit report everytime you dispute something so I have always just spaced out my disputes so I am getting to see my credit reports more than once a year. But I really like goodnatured's process above as well and I think I'll start doing that way in the future. I'm sure it's best to dispute something wrong on your credit as soon as you spot it.

Although even while going through annualcreditreport you have to be cautious. there are so many sneeky attempts by the credit bureaus on their websites to get you to sign up for credit monitoring services or getting your credit score for a fee. If you're just out to get your free credit report you shouldn't have to enter any credit card or debit card numbers so if they ask you then you probably selected something you don't really want.

How can you use AnnualCredit Report.com more than once per year, without being charged for it?

Mon, 04/07/2008 - 03:29 Permalink

When you go through annualcreditreport.com one of the first selections you make is which credit bureau(s) you wish to get your report from. If you only select one at a time you can space it out so every four months you are getting to see one of your credit reports. The law states that you are able to get a copy of each of your three major credit bureau reports once a year but it doesn't state that you have to order all three at once.

that is what I do, then I can monitor any change.

If you get a denial on a credit request you can request a free report too, so if get denied reqest a report.

Its always great to see a negative account fall off of your credit report! I just have a little over two more years to go and I will be rid of my bankrupcty showing on my reports. I'm sure I'll be doing a little dance when that day comes.

I have two years myself for the collection on my report. the other one falls off this july. Some stupid doc. office bill that shouldn't even be there cause at the time I had full medical. Its only like $40 but I haven't heard from any collection place about it and since it falls off shortly, I figure thats good enough.

Have come around after a long time :). Im seeing a lot of new members here as well. Hello to everyone.

I am impressed by the positive results reflected here in the posts. Great going people!!

I just joined a few months ago myself. I found this site has really helped me more than anything. When you start getting collection calls you worry yourself to death. some people do not relize there are places on the net like this. it is noce to have other people in the same situation to talk to and the moderaters to help them out.

Justin, it is amazing how this community has grown, new people, new problems and new solutions, it has been great being here. I have gotten some good advice from the members and have developed some friendships.

Welcome back, hope you decide to stay for a while this time. :D :D :D

I didn't see this site from its beginning but I am sure by looking at member totals that it didn't happen overnight. The more people the more knowledge...more knowledge, the more power....

Mon, 05/05/2008 - 22:38 Permalink

Hi goodnatured

You are right. This community is slowly becoming a good platform for gaining knowledge. It is great to see many people joining this forum.

Thu, 05/15/2008 - 06:11 Permalink

I was actually referred here by a friend. It would be great if there was away to make more people knowledgable about a site like this.

Sun, 05/18/2008 - 23:17 Permalink

Yes, I too think that if people are made aware of this site, more people will visit this forum with their valuable experiences which will be of great help for others in the forum. Knowledge is what actually helps people to remain always in a safer side. In fact I think that referring this site to friends and colleagues will help a lot in this case.

Huh, I never thought of that...clever. NOt that I could wait 4 months to look at my report! LOL Besides, all 3 reports are not the same.

Mon, 05/19/2008 - 06:21 Permalink

Great in put there anthony. Cmb Believe me I could wait that long. I have one that is not gonna fall off for a couple years. That is my worse demon. Even though it is past SOL the junk collectors who keep passing it around drive me crazy. Most of them don't even want to make a reasonable deal so I don't pick up the phone or check my report more than three times a year anyway.

Actually what I meant to say is that interaction increases knowledge and helps us to deal with out debts better. More is the interaction, the more is the information that comes up. It is not the question of solving only the present debt but also to be aware of the future situations.

Tue, 05/20/2008 - 08:58 Permalink

I agree Justin, the more we know the more that we can make better decisions and protect ourselves. These forums are very help with dispersing the information and having discussions that will promote education with credit. I have learned so much here and in turn have put my personal experiences out there for others to work with also.

these forums do a great job of educating people.

Mon, 05/26/2008 - 13:58 Permalink

I agree with Justin that interaction increases our knowledge. Knowledge on credit is essential to understand not only our present credit situation but also help us to deal with the CAs and CRAs better.

I purchased several copies of a self help credit manual that really assists in rebuilding credit if anyone is interested. I can be reached at gmail under harvwashington and can give more info.

Wed, 05/28/2008 - 12:45 Permalink

Yes, one credit report is free in a financial year from each of the three credit reporting agencies as per the Fair Credit Reporting Act. You can order the free report either by visiting their website or by calling their toll free number. All you need to provide is your name, address, social security number and date of birth.

Thu, 05/29/2008 - 05:53 Permalink

I think it is wise to ask for the free report from each of these CRAs as each of these CRAs get information from different sources and so the information in the CR of one CRA may not be exactly the same as that of the other. This does not necessarily mean that the info provided by any of these agencies are incorrect, but they may be different.

Thu, 05/29/2008 - 06:44 Permalink

What is the price usually for purchasing your report? I need to do this to find out my score, I can not find a site that will give me my score for free, I found a free report but no score with it. Does anyone know where I can find one that provides the score for free or a descently priced one?

Tue, 06/03/2008 - 01:45 Permalink

Fro the sites I have seen they always want a credit card before giving you your score. I won't do it in case they bill some incredible fees.

Wed, 06/04/2008 - 00:16 Permalink

August,

I dont think that you get a free annual score, Just the report. FIreyone, as long as you call the number the credit monitoring company provides and cancels you shouldn't have a problem. Just get the reps name and a conf number

Wed, 06/04/2008 - 05:19 Permalink

Hi Fireyone

I think they ask for the credit cards for verification purpose, as by using the card number they can get your details more easily. I don't think they will charge for the free report from your card account.

Wed, 06/04/2008 - 12:58 Permalink

What happens if you don't have a credit card. I have a couple store ones and my bank visa but will any of those work? I am soo wary of using my checking account one. Theres not much in there but its a least something.

Wed, 06/04/2008 - 23:17 Permalink

A bank visa will work fine. If you are afraid of them removing unauthorized funds why dont you but a refillable visa? Throw 40 bucks on it to buy the 3CBS reports and the FICO score etc and not worry if they try to pull more unauthorized cash. Just makesure you call and cancel any services they might have slipped into the terms of service agreement

I didnt learn anything about credit repair from any of those sites.

Sun, 06/08/2008 - 05:35 Permalink

I have found more information by simply googling credit repair, some people have some really good personal web pages and blogs out there on personal credit repair, they have worked through the whole process and will post their experience on the web page or blog. And then there are always forums like this one.

Mon, 06/09/2008 - 03:08 Permalink

Yeah I too have learnt about credit repair from this forum and its members. This forum is a great place to share a good deal of information and to remain informed. Moreover, I have also upgraded my knowledge on credit repair a great deal by going through the pages through google search.

Mon, 06/09/2008 - 08:39 Permalink

I really like the idea of the refillable visa. I am always wary in this day and time using my bank card on the net. I know it is suppose to be secure but the way these hackers come up with new stuff everyday really freaks me out. I have to agree with Carol and goodnatured. I too was soo lost when I came here. I never knew half the rules to the game or all my rights. It was nice to be put on track. One of the best things was the SOLS. This is not because I don't want to pay those bills. It is just that I probaly would have just started to pay off the lowest balance accounts, which were the ones that the SOL had expired. Now after learning what I have I see that is is better to pay the ones that are a bigger danger of suing you. This site gives people the information to find a starting point in credit repair.

I agree also, my comment was directed twords the now deleted post full of porn links.

Tue, 06/10/2008 - 18:32 Permalink

I too find a large number of spam links posted in this forum now a days. I don't know who does this. However, the creditmagic admin is alert enough to delete these links as soon as they appear in the forum. It is truly a good learning site for all of us who face credit related problem every now and then.

Mon, 06/16/2008 - 06:41 Permalink

I usually just blow over the porn or what ever is not appropriate on the site, they do eventually delete it like you said.

Fireyone,
if you google credit report or go to one of the three major credit reporting agency webpages, you can purchase your score there.

Tue, 06/17/2008 - 10:48 Permalink

I don't like running into it on this site or the others too.

Thu, 07/17/2008 - 03:16 Permalink

I never ran into anything like that but definately think it is pretty absurd to show up here. I will purchase my report but I haven't the funds at the moment. Work kind of screwed me over due to my arm injury. I swear one step forward and twenty back.

Thu, 07/17/2008 - 15:16 Permalink

Thank you for giving this useful information. I got the more knowledge from this forum.

Mon, 07/28/2008 - 03:03 Permalink

Don't be afraid to ask questions. That is how I have learned the most. When I came here I didn't even know what CR meant. Feel a little foolish lookikng back but hey I learned.
