Please introduce yourself to the community. This is a place to have some serious fun :).

Seth

Greetings all,

My name is Louis & I'm currently living in the fine state of Washington. My credit started to take a dive around the age of 34 when I could no longer keep up with CC debt. I was advised a bankruptcy was best (I think this is right b4 the laws got stricter) & I went for it. I did learn a very valuable lesson about using CCs, & today I ONLY use my bank's credit/debit card.

Well now I'm 40, & my recent $$$ problems stem from outstanding hospital stay charges (both my Wife & I are listed as defendants.) I'll soon post all the details & questions in the proper forum, & I'm hoping I can get some advice on where to go from here. I've been reading here most of the day & I've already learned quite a bit!

THANKS in advance, & PROPS TO THE WHOLE COMMUNITY!!!

Hi guys, I am new to the site, but not new to removing debt from my credit report.... I was victim of ID Theft, by my dad before I turned 18.

Nothing like going to the Car Dealer 1 week after turning 18 and having the dealer laugh at you.... Seems I had 3 repos on my report, and water bill in default in TN, a state I have never been to.... Fighting them off took a lot of time, and I was finally able to get my credit score up to a 790 while I was in the Military. Then I got hurt in combat, divorced and was medically discharged all in a 2 year span. Well my life was headed down, and so was my credit score.... all the way to 521. That was in 2005, well since then I have managed to get my debt settle, and the unverified stuff dropped. My score is back to a 691 now.... All this without the use of Credit counseling, or Credit repair.

If you have credit problems, take the time to read the Fair Credit Collection Practices Act, the Fair Credit Reporting Act, and the Fair and Accurate Credit Transactions Act. I also recommend Pre-Paid Legal, I have had them for over 10 years now, and I use them a lot to ask questions about the law, and with understanding all that legal vocabulary. They will also write a letter on your behalf to those stubborn collectors that are walking that fine line of legal vs. illegal acts.

With my limited time on this site, I am very impressed in what I see. The sample letters, and vast knowledge here is great.

I hope I can be helpful to some, and learn from others.

thanks :D

I'm new to this menu and I'm interested in matters that will help my four kids get out of their individual credit problems. I screwed up my credit in the early 70's when a gas company send me a card with $5 credit for using it. They may have believed that a senior in college with a card to get beer and snacks at the gas station was a good bet. They lost.

I am here because my credit score is 509 and I need it to be 650. If I have a false judgement taken off, how much will my score go up? and if I make all my credit cards current, how much will that help?

Tue, 03/16/2010 - 01:11 Permalink

Hi Kathleen,

There cannot be any specific increase in your credit score for the removal of the judgment. For more details on increase in credit score after judgment, you can refer http://www.creditmagic.org/judgment/paidoff-increasescore.html .

Making on time payments helps increase your credit score the most. Payment history accounts for 30-35% of your credit score. So, becoming current will help.

Hope this helps.

Aaron

Just wanted to thank all the contributors to this forum and site. Been browsing it for a couple days now and feel relieved and empowered that there are so many people that are willing to share the wealth of information they have to help others with their credit issues.
My husband was ready to pay a credit repair company a fairly large sum to supposedly clear his report, but since I've shown him all the resources on this site we feel confident in our ability to take care of it ourselves.
Thanks again for all you do,
Jennifer

Hi, I'm new :) I've been doing some serious research on repairing my credit myself and I found this site today. Seems to be extremely informative and I'm excited to search through it!! My credit score is terrible and I'm looking to improve it. I now have a son, and being a single mom it's all up to me to make a future for us. I'm dreaming of a home with a big back yard for my son to play in. :) But first, I have to get myself on the right track. I feel motiviated!!

Thanks everyone!

Hello all,

I am new here, I found this site by doing a search on RMCN. I almost was about to pay them to help fix my credit but I just didn't feel right so I kept looking and looking until I found this site. Now I am about to start working on my credit. I had a hard year last year and it shows on my credit. I have repo on my credit and some other things like late payments. I read on here about reaging so I am going to look into that ASAP. I'm hoping to get my credit in good standing within a year or so.

Hi all, My name is Patti. I am engaged to a wonderful guy who, unfortunately , had to file for bankruptcy in 2009. I was wondering how long it takes to repair your credit after something like this. Anyone an exoert on the subject?

Wed, 06/02/2010 - 01:49 Permalink

Hi Melvin:

To enroll for paperless statements, you need to first visit the cards website. Then sign up with the card online, and then you will be able to register for paperless statements.

Patti:

There is no certain time within which a person can repair his credit. This depends on the individual who is trying to repair his credit. As it's been one year already, he may try applying for new credit cards. However, it will be better if he takes a secured credit card as of now. Secured credit card helps in improving credit score. He can then use the secured card to make purchases that he can afford, and then make on time payments on the card.

After bankruptcy, one should also make sure that there are no wrong listings on the credit report regarding the debts which were added in the bankruptcy. If, there are any such wrong listings, you can dispute those with the credit bureaus.

Thanks,

Aaron

Hi guys,

Just found this forum. I had been seeking advice on how to improve my credit score after (or during) debt settlement and found it really helpful. There's so much information that I wish I had been aware before I got into this mess. But I'm working my way out of it. Looking forward to chatting with everyone.

Hi rummy:

Once entered a foreclosure may stay on your credit report for seven years. I saw that most of the people are talking about joining Lexington Law for removing the foreclosure form their credit report. Though I am not sure about this company.

Hi All,

I had horrible credit. Even went through a bankruptcy 2 years ago. I have a 661 credit score so don't be discouraged it can be done! Make sure you pull your credit reports and try to get anything that shouldn't be on there deleted. You can write the credit bureaus letters and they have 30 days to investigate and reply or it automatically gets taken off. You can do it yourself or you can go through a credit restoration place. I recommend a credit restoration place. The reason is because they know the laws and then include those laws in the letters. I had 12 items deleted off mine including my bankruptcy. They follow through and do 5 rounds of dispute cycles. The one I used is Financial Education Services. They're backed by the better business bureau. Check it out at: vrtmg.com/kjurkas

Hi everyone, I got divorced 6 years ago, I was able to keep it together for a while but trying to maintain the level pre divorce became impossible, I then lost mys job and was out of work for 9 months, I wound up on the payday advance cycle and have not been able to get off that treadmill, my finances are now so out of control I can't figure a way out. I can't pay my bills and now with paying the high intrest rates with the payday advances I have even less money then before. I need help in stopping the cycle and getting on a budget that I can live with.

Hi Rtyrell,

I can relate to how you feel about bills piling up...I have heard that it is good to focus on one bill but stay current on the others and try to pay off one by one and little by little you will make progress...I know it can feel overwhelming at times but hang in there..have you looked into credit counseling? I have looked in my phonebook and there are a couple of non profit organizations that will help you out in handling your finances...good luck and keep us posted...
